Skyline Elementary School Modernization

Skyline Elementary is the oldest school in the District and has faced challenges with meeting code and accessibility requirements. Although the site is adequate in acreage for a 650 student elementary school, much of it was used for pedestrian circulation to activities distributed on multiple topographic levels. The Skyline campus is organized with play areas on one half of the site and buildings located on the other half. The play area is open for community-use during non-school hours.

Along with a new 2-story structure which maximizes site utilization and consolidation, Spurlock created spaces for a playground and outdoor teaching opportunities, food service, student dining, and parking. Re-grading portions of the site has created a reinvigorated, dynamic, and modernized campus for years to come. Extensive planting studies related directly to site program have led to the development of a strong and distinguishable planting framework.
