San Marcos Boulevard Landscape Conversion

With drought conditions persisting, the City of San Marcos is actively doing its part to conserve and set the water saving example by retrofitting fixtures in city buildings, reducing irrigation cycles, making irrigation efficiency changes, conducting irrigation water audits, using water-wise landscaping and closing city fountains. Spurlock presented design options for reducing water use at the turf areas along San Marcos Blvd adjacent to the Civic Center. The final design included the replacement of 13,500 square feet of existing spray heads with drip irrigation within median; Retrofitting 27,850 square feet of existing irrigation heads in turf area with high efficiency spray nozzles and pressure regulated bodies; Adding 7,000 square feet of drip irrigation at new perimeter planting area; Removal of 10,000 square feet of existing sod and replacing with low-water understory planting, and replacing remaining turf with a lower-water variety.
