Desert Botanical Garden Master Plan
Located in Phoenix, Arizona, The Desert Botanical Garden lies within 1200 acres of Papago Park – a unique urban desert park characterized by picturesque red sandstone buttes. The Garden is home to many rare and unique desert plants and is a destination for both people from the Phoenix region and visitors from around the world. The DBG contracted Spurlock Landscape Architects to prepare a 20 year master plan that would support and enhance the garden’s three main focuses of education, conservation, and research. This was accomplished through increasing exhibit sizes, staff and research areas, garden displays, and visitor capacity. The master planning design process, which lasted one year, explored and tested many alternatives to enhance the overall visitor experience – culminating in a planning document which will serve to guide the DBG in future fundraising, development, and design.
