Atlanta Botanical Garden Gardens in Storza Woods
Conceived as a destination for the existing Canopy Walk, the Gardens in Storza Woods are a series of unique gardens that offer a beguiling reason to discover the forest’s evolving and distinct character in every season. Spurlock collaborated with ABG’s Landscape Design and Planning Manager, Tres Fromme and staff to design garden features, amenities, and paths that invite visitors of all ages and abilities to explore the majestic 15 acre urban woodland that the Garden carefully stewards. Two terraces offer places to linger and view the towering trees, runnels, and sweeping plantings of the Channel Gardens. A ramped boardwalk and overlook create an accessible crossing at the eastern end of the Channel Gardens; the soaring arch of the Stone Bridge carries visitors across the western end. An elliptical woodland room culminates the journey through Storza Woods and is an irresistible visitor destination. The Water Mirror bisects the elliptical glade reflecting the open sky and tree canopy. The Water Steps, on axis with the Water Mirror and visible from the Canopy Walk, spill down a series of stairs to the Woodland Basin.
