San Dieguito River Park Birdwing Open Air Classroom

The Visitor’s Center Master Plan provided siting and site programing for the implementation of the Birdwing Open Air Classroom – an amphitheater providing the community with a much needed venue for events ranging from student educational programs to weddings. An arroyo cuts through the site, helping to treat stormwater runoff from the adjacent roadway before it enters the river basin.

This project is part of the San Dieguito River Valley Concept Plan – the initial vision document developed for the 55-mile long river corridor spanning from the coastal beach of Del Mar to the Cuyamaca Mountain headwaters near Julian – also developed by Spurlock Landscape Architects.
