One Park | Downtown San Diego Parks Open Space Implementation Plan

The San Diego Downtown Parks and Open Space Implementation Master Plan was created to transform community ideas about future parks downtown by broadening the definition of traditional park and recreation planning. Positioning a vision of downtown San Diego as ‘ONE PARK’, it conceived a connected system of great places for all manner of recreation that will contribute to a healthy community – economically, environmentally, socially and individually. We led a multidisciplinary team, groups of high-level stakeholders and elected officials to define a vision and ideals: to create a system of attractive, memorable public spaces sustained in perpetuity by a framework of governance, finance, operations and maintenance policies. Ultimately, our goal was to guide the creation of a rich, walkable open space system that created a beautiful and cohesive downtown while addressing the needs of residents and workers and offering a destination for citizens and visitors alike.
