Spurlock Landscape Architects creates transformative, restorative urban and natural landscapes that connect people, communities, and environments. Combining deep understanding of regional ecologies with critical analysis, research, and inventive design, we look for elegant solutions to create projects with an authentic sense of place.
Our practice embraces and even celebrates paradox, balancing intellect and intuition, artistry and precision, creativity and pragmatism – these essential tensions and complexities that yield beautiful and successful landscapes. Our talented and diverse team shares a love of lifelong learning. We are thoughtful problem solvers and prize collaboration with our clients, our consultants, our builders, and our communities. We listen intently and we are responsive. Over the years, we have worked with leading creative thinkers toward a shared belief that place making matters.
Andy Spurlock established the firm in 1988, to provide an innovative, site-conditioned approach to both planning and landscape architectural design. In the intervening years Spurlock Landscape Architects has expanded to over 20 people with offices in San Diego and Campbell, California and a leadership team of 5 Principals. As the firm has grown in size, the result has been a lively collective collaboration on a broad range of projects that have earned national, state and local awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Institute of Architects and the American Planning Association.
Spurlock Landscape Architects is a certified SLBE (Small Local Business Enterprise) by the City of San Diego, a certified SBE (Small Business Enterprise) by the State of California Department of General Services, and a certified WOSB (Woman Owned Small Business) by the NWBOC (National Women Business Owners Corporation).
